Punk Rock Xmas - Hurricane East, Wildwood, NJ 12/20/05
This show is definitely in the top 3 of my favorite all time performances. Not only were we having a blast up on stage, but the crowd was dancing and singing along. Hell, we even had pole dancers foe awhile. Great show!
Andy and George showed up at my place a little after 7. My trusty roadie had to use my shower. Seriously, someone adopt George. He's had his shots and is paper trained. Anyways, the kids arrived not much longer after that and it was onto the Hurricane.
We got there a little before 8 and the Hurricane staff was just getting there. Eric Kutepow was already there and was going to be filming. He shot our live in the studio set at WFMU earlier this year. Now we'll have some more footage for a future friggin' DVD. The Raucous boys showed up not much longer after that. First time I've seen Chuck or Keith since the J3 show back in July. Chuck was kind enough to let me use his "Stretch Armstrong" drum kit for the night.
Only one small problem, the first band Guerilla Mask had yet to shown up. The sound guy and owner was getting antsy. They wanted music to start by 9. Andy was getting antsy which in turn made me antsy. Finally, they showed up a little past 8:30. They got set up and then everyone chilled for awhile listening to the great comp that Andy made for the club to play that night.
A lot of the local lunatics made it out for the show. Wags was there, Murdoch showed up, my co-worker Danielle and her boyfriend made it out, Jessie came out off her sick bed, the silly sisters came out for the first time in ages (let's see those pics Nikki), Jen, Pat, Matt, plus more. Andy saw an old friend from high school he hasn't seen in like 10 years. Thanks again everyone for the support. Oh, I did get a very drunk Yo Yo in, but he didn't stay too long as his friend was sick. First thing he did in the door was a body shot. Hell, the girls talked me into one too.
Anyways, Guerilla Mask went on around 9:30. I really liked their sound a lot. Apparently they've only been together a few weeks. They only had like a 3-4 song set. I thought they put on a good show. Of course Andy had brought in a gorilla mask so him and George were taking turns wearing it.
The Raucous boys were up next. I thought they played a helluva show although it looked like Chuck was having technical difficulties. Of course the very lovely Raucous cheerleaders made an appearance wearing Santa hats for the occasion. I think I fell in love with Amber not once, but several times. Best part was they fed fake snow into a fan that was blown everywhere. Fun times!
We were up next and as I said earlier, played one of our best shows ever. Not only was the music tight, but there was several hi jinks as well. 2 of the dancers from the club did their thing pole dancing. The one girl was right in front of me sort of distracting me I might add. She kept drinking my water and I proceeded to wet her down as well as have her squirt water in my mouth. I had an abnormal amount of "pit pat" breaks (our code name to stop so I can have a drink). But there was so much fun. Andy even made a $1 tip this time. And what really made the night was everyone up and dancing having a good time. Andy told me later he not only saw the people up front singing along, but the folks at the bar as well. We let the crowd take over several times on backing vocals. We wound up ending the set with me and Andy singing acapella the "Ding Fries Are Done" spoof from the internet.
I admit I was a little dissapointed that the turnout wasn't as big as it should've been. But then again, I rather have a smaller crowd of die hards who aren't afraid to have fun then people just sitting on their hands. Either way I found out later that the club made the most money yet for a band night on this show. I know the bar made out good. Our crew can drink! Many thanks to the Hurricane staff who know how to have a good time as well. They've been supportive from the get go. Hopefully we'll be back again in January. Have a Merry friggin' Punk Rock Xmas!!
