Justin Freelings B-day Party, Villas, NJ 12/16/05
We had a pretty dopey practice yesterday. We did learn a new song that's now stuck in my head, but most of the time was spent goofing off playing bits and pieces of covers. Still had a lot of fun. So anyway after it was over K had mentioned a party she heard about. Actually I did too thru My Space. So in the whole goofy spirit we were in we decided to crash it. Let me remind just how surreal it would be, this was a party for high school kids. Here would come 2 adults with me being old enough to be their father. But like I said the mood was giddy so what the hell!
Penny gets the address and off we go. We get there and just walk in. K had to help me up the rickity stairs as they weren't fatty friendly. Kinda felt like a conquering hero as the buzz went up that The Sheckies were indeed crashing the party. The place the band was set up was pretty cool, an addition to the house still in the early stage. The kids had room to move about. Andy immediately went for the food spread. Next thing I know a hoagie is being shoved in my face. The b-day boy's band Blood Red At Dawn finished up and we were going on. Friggin' Stickerboy is the singer! Good to see him in his own band now. I knew the guitarist Shane thru My Space as well.
It was an adventure just to get my fat ass over the amps to get behind the drum kit. Oh man, no offense fellow drummer, but your kit was pretty crappy. The bass drum pedal was sprung so tight I a hard time getting any good action off of it. So that was a bit of a hinderance. I had to balance my fat ass on the wobbly throne. But once we started playing I got caught up in the spirit of it all and had a blast. Well until a blister formed and then broke by the end of the set.
Yeah, we had equipment troubles, I could barely hear them nor them me, but it was fun. K had people up and dancing, a good time had by all. Afterwards I think we scared the kids though. Could it have been Penny nearly getting naked? Andy licking his nipple ring? Andy steamrolling Penny on the floor? Andy shoving a mouthful of chewed pepperoni into mine? I've never seen Andy more off the wall. The sad thing was here we were having more fun than all the kids. Most were gathered up in their cliques. Lighten up and let your hair down! At least K's friends were laughing and having a good time.
Anyways, thanks kids for letting us crash your party. It was fun all the way around. Andy and I kept laughing the rest of the night at the absurdity of it all, the 2 grown men crashing a kiddy party!
