Hmm feeling confused!!
Let's see what you think...
In Oct 2008 I signed up for a volunteer mentoring project, I was unemployed at the time and wanted to boost CV. I signed up to 1 hour a week with a child for a 12 month committment with a youth club in Bolton. I was only allocated a child 2 weeks ago, the child doesn't even live in bolton to pick her up, take her to the youth club and take her home again is a 36 mile trip and i dont get my petrol paid! it also takes longer than an hour to drive back and forth. The ONLY thing she is interested in doing is going to the youth club which is also a 2 and half hour session!!
Its too much time, it's costing me too much and they have given me a child that is interested only in sport when I am medically incapable.
But shes a sweet kid, she's only 11, she's on the at risk register and she's been let down too many times before. Kinda feel selfish!

It seems they're not pretty good at keeping their part of the bargain. You should be proud of yourself for seeing the positive sides of the kid in all this. Maybe you should have a word with the project people to at least cover your costs, since that wasn't part of the deal. It does seem like you're making a real difference for that girl.

my co-ordinator is meant to ring me each week but she hasnt done this week yet...i'll talk to her then. i wonder what they do with the mentors that don't drive...there must be some kind of alternative transport arrangements that dont include me doing 36 miles - i can get to work and back 4 times for that!
