I fucking quit the Delinquents, and good god I am glad to be done with that band.
This bad blood mess really heated up a couple of weeks ago, as some of you may have seen with my "dont show up fucking stoned" post. I have to drive almost 2 hours, each way to go to rehearsals, get there, get my shit set up, and Brian comes out of his room stoned as fuck. The whole house smelled like a water bong.
So we start trying to rehearse. Not only is Brian completely out of tune, and cant even get in tune with a tuner, his son who he recruited to play bass because no one else would work with him, is off time, and out of tune and WAY too fucking loud. This is so bad, Andy and I just sit there looking at each other completely bewildered.
Anyway, long story short, I voice my concern about Brian's multiple screw ups. This ranged from him playing the wrong key a very simple song, trying to play stoned, getting on stage at Emos and talking about "We played these fucked up gigs at places like the Saxon Pub" forgetting that the Saxon Pub gig was a fucking benefit for an Austin legend's very sick son who needs medical care. At said "fucked up gig", Brian was not allowed to even enter the club because Sumner Erickson would either kick his ass, or not play the show. Reason? Because Brian was selling Roky Erickson bootlegs illegally, and a whole host of other grievances that Sumner had with Brian. Needless to say, first gig out of the chute for me, had me with a very uneasy feeling. Still, Brian was my bandmate, and I believed in solidarity, so I stood by my bandmate.
Later on, in the same Emos show, after saying the benefit for Willie Graham was a "fucked up gig" he then berated promoter David Cotton on stage, calling him a prick, and then when going into the intro to "Fade Away" he made an off handed comment about Margaret Moser, who does the punk scene write ups for the Austin Observer. Now, everyone who knows me knows there is NO love loss between myself and Moser, but my feeling is the stage is the wrong fucking place to start bitching about benefit gigs, promoters, and the press. People who pay to see you play dont give two shits about your personal shit...shut the fuck up and play your songs.
So, back to the issues regarding the rehearsals. This guy has spit on another bassist last year, on stage, and bitched about Andy for being an alcoholic, but Andy had been sober for over ten years. But Brian still holds that shit against Andy.
Then, this clown doesn't come to me, but goes to Elana and whines about me drinking a beer before the very Emos show where he played the wrong key for an entire song, complained about that ol "fucked up gig", called David Cotton a prick, and bitched about Moser. Damn, can you see where I am not too upset about not working with this guy?
Anyway, he got his panties in a twist when I complained about his "reefer smoking" and said he just wants to do this for fun. Huh? You're the same guy who spit on a bassist ON STAGE in front of the guys son, for being drunk at a show, bitched about fucked up gigs because they arent good enough for you, and now that your integrity is called into question because your a fucking waste of a pot head, now it's "just for fun".
So....my connection to Brian and the Delinquents is done. I cant stand to share a stage with someone who repeatedly fucks up, and shows up stoned, cant even tune his guitar, cant play in time, and thinks it's fine and dandy to spit on other musicians when they mess up. I also dont like the ethical issues of selling stolen material he has no copyrights on, but that isn't my deal to worry about.
I do feel that my name was going to be tarnished by working with him. No one here wants to work with Brian, and it is very hard for the band to get gigs because of the way people see him.
So, look for me in other project, a but heavier, without the horse shit that follows Brian around.
