Up the date, kids. (Update.)
My hair is really soft today and I'm not wearing any make up at all, which is a fairly unusual thing for me. It's not that I feel that I'm bad looking or anything without make-up, it's just sort of a force of habit type thing. That and I'm a girly as a little bitch and I put shit like Nars palettes on my amazon.com wish lists, which I purchased for myself, regardless of LateEdge's mockery. I like the damned summer colours (especially citron and apricot) and I'm not afraid to admit it, damnit.
Is it sick that I want to learn the guitar for "Since U Been Gone" by Kelly Clarkson and rock a slightly more uptempo version for a performance opportunity coming up? It's the really beefy guitar that comes up from the "Again and again and again..." at the end of the B section. (Look at me, using jargon from my jazz application classes. Since when do I retain pertinent information?) I've got to give props to the American Idol folks. The first few (I'm not sure how many there were, I'm not up on what the kids listen to because I'm all old-feeling and uncool) of Kelly's releases were suckasaurus, but the singles from her new release have made their ways into my heavy rotation since I heard them when my sister came over an played them on my stereo pre-going out for a girly evening.
So, yeah. I've always been a big fan of people who can allow themselves to succumb to their "middle of the road" tastes and don't take themselves so seriously that they can't appreciate "uncool" things. You know... Sometimes I don't want food infused with wheatgrass and essence of emu, I just want some damn pub nachos. And I will sit and watch old taped 90210 episodes or the OC (!!!!) and I listen to the following songs on fairly frequent rotation:
-Breakaway and Since U Been Gone by Kelly Clarkson (I always have to rock out when these songs are on. I was even a little tempted to do some sort of a head motion when I was listening to it on the plane, but I restrained myself.)
-Dip It Low by Christina Milian (This song is hot and awesome and is perfect for dancing around all skankoriffic with a bunch of ladies.)
-More Than a Woman by Aaliyah (Awesome hook, also really dancey.)
-Lose my Breath by Destiny's Child (I love anything with army/marching band-esque drums, especially when combined with Queen-like building falsetto chords.)
-Lala by Ashlee Simpson (Dude. This song is sexy and I don't care what anyone says.)
-Baby It's You by Jojo (Featuring Bow Wow of former "Lil'" fame, bitches! I'm always quoting the rap with the accent to my particularly scene looking girlfriend when we're on the subway.)
-With You by Jessica Simpson (She's hot, and the song opens with great "guitar", or whatever it is. It's got really great anticipated beats and such. Plus it rocks and stuff.)
-Sk8er Boi by Avril Lavigne (She rocks this, and fair is fair. "How we rock each other's wo-u-urld." sounds awesome.)
-Everytime and Toxic by Britney Spears (I once jammed a really folky version of Toxic with my on and off collaborator and it sounded kind of kick ass. Also, I have a soft spot for this song ever since one of my good friends mistook the words for "I'm toxic, tox-licky toxic." The remix of Everytime (the dance version, not just the sped up version) is amazing.)
So, that's my music geekery. I've recently become aware that I'm not the only person (yeah, I generally think fairly self-centredly) who has a weakness for dorky tunes and still circulates in what could be called alternative circles for all intensive purposes. Something about being okay with being a complete dork is a very enjoyable trait in someone, and I'm not talking about cool dorky in a thickly framed glasses sort of way. Just unabashedly dorky.
I need more coffee.

"dancing around all skankoriffic with a bunch of ladies" is one of my favorite things to do. Ever.
