I'm in the Starbucks in the lobby of the Philly Marriott because it's the only place in this godforsaken hotel with wireless, and I can't figure out how to use the in-room cord-y internet. I miss NYC so much. The hustle, the bustle, the beautiful people, the things to look at and the places to walk around. That is my kind of city. Don't get me wrong, I love Toronto and Montreal, but I would pack my bags and move to New York in a heartbeat, regardless of the cramped apartment or the intense poverty.
I did not get into Curtis, which sucks, but not as much as I would expect. Maybe it's the 4 cups of coffee talking, but I didn't really like the place all that much. It was stuffy, full of snooty geezers and it seemed like it would be really hard to make friends due to the fact that the student population seemed to be an even mix of foreign people who spoke no English and prep school types who I wouldn't want to associate with anyway.
I made it to the final cut. A thousand some hundred auditioned, 500+ made the first cut, then down to 120, and I ended up in the final ten. They ended up only picking one female as far as I understood, which is fine. It was a really strange atmosphere. Despite the fact that it was nice and small and fully paid, I think I'd go nuts in a place like that, so I'm alright with it.
Anyway, yesterday I got to hang out with the delightful Mikey_Dough and had some damn fine jasmine tea (thanks), listened to some tunes, checked out some photos and y'know, just generally had fun. It was interesting to be around a guy who is a big force in my musical interests, and I was surprisingly not nervous/squeely, although I think I must have said "wow" about a thousand times. Regardless, it was damn nice.
Then I walked back to my hotel, got my bags and boarded the Amtrak to Philly. It's not as bad as all that, but it's kind of like a dirty Americanized version of Ottawa. Not my style, but I knew that coming here.
I'll update later. LateEdge's latest post reminded me that I haven't really eaten today, either. Maybe I should go do that. See you kids later. Stay frosty. (What?)
