There are 5 veils of misidentification that disable us from knowing that we are IT
they are..
1. body
2. life force
3. mind (unchosen)
4. intellect (chosen)
5. state of bliss or constant seeking of happiness
you are not your feelings, you are infinite light which gets turned into whatever it identifies itself as. Your true nature is the sun and no matter how many lakes the sun can reflect into it doesn't show a Piece of the sun it shows the whole Sun.
You are feeling things but you are not your feelings. You are the observer of your feelings but that doesn't mean you need to identify yourself As them. Identifying ourselves as them creates clinging to them. If we realize that our mind is feeling pain then it becomes a situation which can then be dealt with accordingly. If we say that I am feeling pain then it is a problem that causes suffering and we drown in it. Do you see the difference?
If we see that our mind is experiencing pain then what we do is we live through it and experience it and fix it. If we say I am in pain then we usually find a way to drown in it.
If the car is broken we fix it. If we say the car is mine, then when it breaks the suffering of the car becomes our suffering. This is the same as our body. In this way take on the suffering of things we are not.
This happens because we identify things outside of ourselves as the source of our healing or happiness. Then we depend on these things to make us happy and healed. This obviously lets us down whenever they dont make us happy. And what this does is make us ignore that the source of happiness is within us.
And what is the source of happiness within us? We already are The Source of All! GOD! And we already are whole and complete liberated infinite soul, and we already are enlightened. If the car breaks down and I am relying on it as the source of my happiness then I will be shocked and devastated. However if I am realistic and understand that all temporary things will pass I can still remain happy when my car breaks down. We are not our body any more than we are our car. We possess a body but we are not our body any more than your shoes are your feet.
This awareness is something that takes constant development. It is not going to go from blind ignorant identification to sudden death of all identification. It is a weaning process of release from our self-created shackles. It is waves in an ocean and each time the waves come into the shore of our being we soak it up more and more. I am that ocean, and you are too. There is only one ocean! The more we let go of our identify of our limited self then the more we become realized as that ocean, the more we become our true nature
Feeling empty and alone comes from clinging to fear that if you let go of that you will be empty and alone. But it is completely on the contrary. What we cling to is all of the stuff that is not our true nature, the temporary stuff that is outside of us. We try to find happiness in things outside of us that are semi permanent. Then we depend on them for our happiness and they can never possibly live up to our standards and then we become sad and disheartened because we ignore the truth within us! The fear makes us feel empty and alone and if we let go of the identification that "this fear is me" then we would realize that we could never be alone or empty because were the WHOLE THING. Not just a part. That is Happiness WITHIN.
