Well....I am just about ready for the The Arkansas Scottish Festival
This year I'm definitely goin' casual! Though I'll still be wearin' a Kilt.
Last year I went in full period costume (which is the costume you see me wearing in "my pics").
But, without going into a full and detailed explanation of how to pleat and wrap a true Breacan Feile, or "Great Kilt", I'll just say that it's just way too time consuming and labor intensive for this kind of event, where no one would really appreciate period costume. Hell, there was only one other guy there in a "Great Kilt", and he left shortly after arriving, so I was basically the only one.
I got quite a few compliments, as well as a few odd stares, but this year I want to just relax and enjoy myself more.
So I'll be wearing a regular kilt, which I got just last month.
Hehehehehe....last year I pissed of a snobbish old high school aquaintence, just by showing up!
I remember all through School, he would brag about his "Scottish Heritage", and how because of it, his family was connected with the College, blah, blah, blah.
I had attended the festval before, but it was'nt until just a few years ago that I found out that I was of Scottish descent.
You see, my Dad was adopted. Basically abandoned by his real parents. I had known this since childhood, and I grew up without a real sense of where I came from.
Then, amongst other shit that came out with my Dad joining AA, I learned that the original name on his birth certificate was "MacLeod".
"Holy Shit! I'm Scottish!"
I started learning more about Scottish heritage, culture and history, and one thing I learned was that I had the right to join Clan MacLeod.
I had seen the Clan booths at the Scottish festival before, but it was'nt until last year that I finally, got the nerve to just go ahead and sign up and join.
Most Clans today are mostly about promoting Scottish and Clan heritage, culture, and history, which I naturally had acquired a newfound interest in.
Now at the festival, we have a parade of Clans, where all the members of the Clans parade around the festival to the sound of Bagpipes, bearing their Clan banners, standards, and tartans.
The "snob" I mentioned earlier was a member of Clan Ogilvie.
When he saw me, in my kilt, gathered with my Clan, he actually went red-faced and silent!!!
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!!!
I was not expecting that reaction from him. Actually, he and I used to be freinds of a sort, and I had hoped he could put his "airs", as it were, aside. But if he's going to be a snob, I'm SO GLAD I pissed him off!!!
I can claim something that he claims, and there is nothing he can do about it!!
I spent my childhood an outcast of sorts, not knowing where I came from!
Now I have at least some knowledge of that, and DAMNIT I deserve it!! AND I'LL BE DAMNED IF SOMEONE TRIES TO DENY ME THAT!!!
(sorry to rant )
I'm so looking forward to this weekend.
I've made arrangements at work to have the weekend off, even though I pissed off one of the quys to do it, after the way he's acted in the past towards me, he deserved it
In other news...I've just discovered a metal band called "Manowar"! And I like it!
Now I know most of you are thinking "YOU'VE ONLY JUST NOW HEARD OF MANOWAR!! WHERE HAVE YOU BEEN HIDING!!"
While I do say that my tastes in music are "broad and ecclectic", that does'nt mean my knowledge of it is as well.
Also, you must remember the area I live in. You're doing good if you hear anything other that country, pop, or christian music. Hell, MTV was banned for years here!
Anyway, I heard a sample of one of their songs, "Warriors of the World" on a website. But I did'nt know who they were. I had to find out!
So I searched on Amazon for that song, found out the groups name, and went ahead and ordered a couple of CDs. They should be getting here in about a week. I can't wait!
Also, I saw the most depressing thing yet to date!
I had taken off my glasses to wash my face. When I came up to look in the mirror, because I'm nearsighted, I leaned in close to see myself....and that's when I saw them.
My first wrinkles....just under my eyes.
That made me feel so old. It just depressed the living shit out of me. It still does when I think about it!
I'm not really vain, but just the fact that I have them makes me think about how old I am, and all the things I wanted to accomplish by this age....and still haven't.
:mope:
Fuck it! Forget about it! I got plans for this weekend!
Hmmm.....long update. Seems to be becoming the norm for me.
Later.

Do you think that's correct: "comforting yet overwhelming"?
