I cannot stop thinking about the people effected by Hurricane Katrina. It was such a big and powerful storm. So many people decided to ride it out. So many lives lost. I have been watching stories on TV from people who have been through it and rescued from their homes. One man was on his roof with his wife and kids during the storm. Waves kept coming over their house threatening to knock them off. His wife started to fall over the edge and he held on but couldn't keep a hold of her. She went into the water and he has no idea if she died or not, where she might be if she did survive. He and his kids had to watch this happen. He lost his wife, he has no house, no car, no clothes, no food... nothing.
An apartment building collapsed with people in it, at least 30. All are expected to be dead. There are people still sitting on their roofs waiting to be rescued. People who left their homes and have no idea of they still have a home. People left their pets behind and don't know if they made it through. I saw one picture of a dog sitting by itself on a roof, hopefully the people taking the pictures were able to help it. The last estimate I heard said it is believed that at least 80 people lost their lives to this storm.
I am going to do what I can to help, I wish I had money I could send. I will be going through my clothes and sending anything I can. I hope you all will do what you can too. So many people are going to be left with absolutely nothing. I live in Florida and I feel very lucky that I haven't been hit like this in my lifetime. Last year when we got all those hurricanes right in a row these people sent help. Now its time to return the favor.
