I GOT THE PHD!!!!!
I'm sooooo happy and stuck in italy and can't celebrate with any of my good friends or BF...
Here is what I've been up to:
I'm in an internet cafe in roma at the moment and today I'm phootling around on my own. I plan to visit the Trevi fountain, the Spanish steps and the vatican museums and sistine chapel. I have not been able to download my camera anywhere, so no photo's on flikr for you all as yet but will do asap.
Well, I had huge bug bites all week from the sandflies and the heat has given me my first attack of eczema in about 10 years, but apert from that I'm managing the heat quite well. We've doen about 3.5 ha of the site so far and no archaeology in it as yet- we think we are in area that was a lagoon in the roman period and that there may be more the south of where we are currently surveying. Good news for pirelli I guess, but a bit boring for us.
I might have a further 2 weeks out here to the end of august, either on this site (depending on the contractor) or working on a much smaller site within an archaeological park near to napoli (with perhaps a chance to visit pompeii!). Weighing on my mind is that i do have to come back to work on my dissertation at some point- due to baggae limits I couln't bring much out with me so it's hard to get much done.
Lots of thoughts- firstly how different it feels to the UK. At home, houses towns, shops are all the same- here there is a lot of variety and everything feels really disorganised. Much more variety of shops, buildings. Food is sooo much better- have not seen a single ready meal and only 1 macdonalds.
Ciao for now, about to run out of credit in the cafe.

Congratulations!!
I'm so happy for you.
That's so wonderful.
Sounds like you're having fun, even if you haven't made any great discoveries yet.
I hope you have lots of memory for your camera. Wouldn't want you to miss taking pictures because you can't store anymore.
Glad you're having fun, and enjoying the food so much too.
Excellent work, well done!!
