Rose is a psychiatrist who gets a call to see a very traumatised girl called Laura, who believes something demonic is trying to kill her and explains only she can see it and it looks like real people her friends or her neighbours or even her dead grandpa and as she's explaining she can recognise it by it's sinister smile she suddenly see's it and begins to scream wildly before collapsing to the floor unable to breathe, Rose runs to the phone to call help and as she turns back around she see's that Laura is now stood infront of her smiling as she cuts her throat, Laura's death seems to really affect Rose as she starts to see Laura appearing smiling at her in her apartment or in the street or even at parties and begins to lose her own grip on reality after discovering that Laura also seen somebody commit a violent suicide before she got her psychosis and there is a chain as each suicide victim was also witness to the same thing, I really enjoyed this movie as it's about a subject that fascinates me in how we all share a different version of reality and what appears real in our own world can seem strange or crazy to others living in a different one, I love how it used sound for atmosphere and it's high pitched squeaks and grinds reminded me of the texas chainsaw massacre the camera never follows rules either and is also zooming or focusing on details that add to the paranoia, another thing that appealed to me was the images of dark doorways as sometimes the image of a doorway in a dark room that has light shining through the gap edges pops into my head and I've never worked out the meaning, I also loved the quote when Rose says this isn't real and the demonic enitity says but your mind makes it real, it's hard to know if what Rose sees is real or is she psychologically damaged and having a breakdown because the visions she see's always happen at her most stressful moments, I really enjoyed this movie and found it genuinely creepy in parts so would highly recommend
