I decided to set myself a challenge and watch a horror movie each night in October as a build up towards Halloween, some movies are well known and others not so well known
Night 30 - A nightmare on elm street 1984
When I was a kid Freddy Krueger was everywhere, the first time I seen him was in the video store where I used to go with my Dad and little brother, I used to love looking at all the cover art in the horror section and when I seen Freddy's burnt face it was a shock, later they got a big cardboard cutout as a promotion tool and that used to creep me out 👻, he was also in magazines, TV shows, toys, posters, t-shirts and even music videos, it's such a cool idea for a movie a razor fingered demon that can enter and control your dreams and if you die in your dream then you die in real life, everyone must know this movie by now so here's a little of the background behind it, the name Fred Krueger was the name of a boy who bullied creator Wes Craven at school and the red sweater and hat was based on a homeless guy who used to scare him near his home, the razor fingers are an idea from his pet cat's claws and the dream deaths are based on newspaper articles about a Hmong refugee who refused to sleep because he said someone was trying to kill him in his nightmares, after days without sleeping he finally fell asleep while watching television with his family, they carried him upstairs to bed and returned to the TV and after a while they suddenly heard him screaming out so ran upstairs to help but when they got there he was dead, Freddy became more of a comedy character in the sequels so part one is him at his most creepy, it looks very dated now but there's still some really cool effects like the part were he comes through the wall, and the death scenes and nightmares are probably what makes the movie so good, look out for a very young Johnny Depp being pulled into a hole in his bed and then gallons of blood spraying out, it's still a classic and every kid in the world must have had at least one nightmare about Freddy at one point in their life
Here's the trailer and what ever you do, don't.....fall......asleep!!! 🤠
