Night 22 - The Texas chainsaw massacre (1974)
This is a movie that's really grown on me over the years, I remember being incredibly disappointed the first time I watched as it had been banned in the uk for a long time and eventually the ban got lifted in 1998 so I was desperate to watch it, I was expecting something completely different and extreme but it's not actually that gory so I felt let down, but when I rewatched it I appreciated it much more, the art director Robert A Burns sets and designs are amazing and add so much that they are like a starring character they are incredibly artistic in a macabre way and made from mostly animal bones, there's chairs, lamps and other furniture all decorated in the bones and you can imagine the rooms resemble Ed Geins real life farm house, the look of Leatherface is also really intimidating he's a huge man who wears the skins of people he's killed over his face again based on Gein, seeing him for the first time is iconic especially so when he's using his chainsaw, this film has so much tension and anxiety and I loved how the mixture of high pitched squeaks and distorted echos work and ramp up that tension to such a high level, Marilyn Burns also deserves so much praise for her performance she really gave it everything and must have been completely broken by the end, I've gone from disliking it to it being one of my favourite movies and if you watch it for what it is then it's an excellent and iconic movie
