Night 20 - The Fly (1986)
Seth Brundle is a scientist who believes he has created a working teleporter but at the moment it can only teleport inanimate objects and teleporting any living creature just turns it inside out, when he eventually works out how to make it work he tests it on himself but doesn't realise there is a fly inside the telepod with him and that his machine isn't only a teleport device it's also a gene splicer that fuses them both together at a genetic level, I love how the film shows his slow and painful transformation as he and the fly genetically fuse together at first he has increased strength and stamina but gradually his body parts start to fall off as he becomes more insect (he collects the parts that fall off in his bathroom cabinet ðŸ¤), the director David Cronenberg is known for his body horror stories and said the transformation was meant to represent the aging process, Jeff Goldblum is incredible in this movie even though he's wearing lots of prosthetics and makeup for large periods he's completely believable and you can imagine all the fear and pain he's going through as he changes, he even develops a fly like twitch and mannerisms, some special effects are still really good like the parts where he walks on the walls and ceilings but some like the final transformation scene are very dated now but overall its still a really good movie that has enough for a casual horror fan but also lots of extra things if you like to think about the movie after it's finished and is surprisingly emotional at the end 🪰
