Night 15 - Videodrome (1983)
Max owns a sleazy cable TV station but is desperate to find something harder to entice new viewers, his technician finds a short burst of a hidden snuff movie style satellite show called videodrome which features torture and is incredibly realistic and violent, he's desperate to find out more so he can air the show on his channel but as he learns more he discovers that videodrome is actually a prototype of a new secret weapon, the show features a hidden signal and this causes the viewers to develop a brain tumour which creates hallucinations that are designed as a form of mind control, the creators program Max to kill all his partners so they can then control his station and are free to put videodrome on the air, I found this movie really interesting and even though its set in the 80's when video cassettes were the media of choice it still holds up in today's world especially when you look at the control social media has on how people live their lifes and the influence on how we should think or behave, a good example is the way it creates negative body image especially for young women who are expected to look a way to be popular but that look is often unachievable so scary stuff but back to the movie, it features Debby Harry the super cool lead singer of Blondie and was written and directed by David Cronenberg and is definitely worth a watch so I'd highly recommend it 😉
