I decided to set myself a challenge and watch a horror movie each night in October as a build up towards Halloween, some movies are well known and others not so well known
Night 10 - House of 1000 corpses (2002)
I really enjoyed this movie the first time I watched it and enjoyed it again after not watching it for a few years, the story is basically the same as the Texas chainsaw massacre but updated and I love it's strangeness, there's lots of references to the old universal horror movies and the later grindhouse ones (my bloody valentine and some Lucio Fulci movies like house by the cemetery are clear to see) and like those old grindhouse style movies the director (Rob Zombie) edits and switches between lots of old style filters and the use of vhs home movie style footage and the music adds intensity, there are some really cool and effective set pieces like when Otis kills a police man the music stops and the picture freezes for what seems like forever before he pulls the trigger, both horror legends Sid Haig and Bill (choptop) Moseley are excellent and if you like strange movies that are full of cool set pieces and don't always make sense then it's definitely worth watching, my brother doesn't like it for those reasons but I'd personally recommend it
