I decided to set myself a challenge and watch a horror movie each night in October as a build up towards Halloween, some movies are well known and others not so well known
Night 9 - Deranged....the confessions of a necrophile (1974)...(uncut version)
This is basically the story of Ed Gein, the man who inspired the stories behind Psycho, The Texas chainsaw massacre, The Silence of the Lamb's and so many more, it's really slow paced so you'll need to be very patient but it has its creepy and eerie moments which are worth waiting for like were Ezra dismantles a severed head with a hacksaw and scoops out the eyes and brains with a spoon on his dining table or were he dresses in the skin of a body he exhumed and waits to be found in the dark, the lead actor for this movie is Roberts Blossom who you'll probably recognise as Kevin's neighbour in home alone (the old guy with a beard and the shovel the kids were scared of) and he has a real vulnerability so you can't help but feel sorry for him despite the things he does, he shows how loneliness and isolation can affect mental health and how you can see a person in one way but inside they are completely different in a completely believable way, its an unusual style for such a low budget movie and it's probably a movie for the purists but if you have lots of patience and can handle the slow pace it's worth watching but if you like action and jump scares it's definitely not for you
