I decided to set myself a challenge and watch a horror movie each night in October as a build up towards Halloween, some movies are well known and others not so well known
Night 8 - Night of the living dead (1968)
A personal favourite and the movie that first made Zombies into cannibals that eat human flesh 🧟♂️, it's such a ground breaking movie for so many reasons including it's focus more on the gore and violence and it's one of the best independent movies ever made, it definitely changed the way zombies acted and also is culturally really important as the lead actor is Duane Jones, if you look back its incredibly rare to see a African American actor cast as the lead hero role in that era and if you look at the subtext within the movie (especially the end sequence) I feel they were making a point about the culture of that time, the black and white colour and reused soundtrack with added electric effects create a unique feel and really create an seige atmosphere, my favourite part is after the failed escape the zombies start to fight over and eat the bodies (the sound effects really add to the tension), it's definitely worth a watch even if just to see where it all started and deserves its place as one of the best horror movies created
