So pikahyper took my movie recommendation for Wilderness Survival For Girls on the Film Club group. I'm touched. I really am and not in a dirty way either. So here are some more recommendations from myself to you, my wonderful friends.
Children of Men
A lot of people give Clive Owen flack and say that he's not a good actor, but I like him, so chill out. I think he's great in this movie that paints a very dreary portrait of the future. A child has not been born on Earth in 18 years and there have been no signs of it ever stopping, until a rebel group harbors a pregnant woman. Clive Owen's character meets her and she confides in him, when everyone around him seems to hate his mere existance. The two flee from the rebel group and he must decide who to trust. The rebels or the government? I'll you with that to chew on. I think its a great movie and definately worth watching. A "gem" is a good word I'd use to describe this movie, as it doesn't fit a whole lot of other genres. Oh, and Michael Caine is brilliant! His character provides some comic relief to his otherwise hopeless and sad surroundings. Pick it up and if you watch it, let me know what ya think.
Sleeping Dogs Life
After the first 20 minutes of this movie, you might be a little repulsed, but let me tell you it gets a lot better. This movie is about a newly engaged couple and the man wants to be completely honest with his bride-to-be. He spills his secret (which is gross) and she spills hers, but she finds that everyone around here has trouble dealing with her big secret. As twisted as her secret is, this is actually a great movie. Its very touching and presents this kind of situation in a very realistic manner, I think. It's not like American Pie where people can just "get over" what happens to themselves or others. That's not how the real world works and that's not how this movie works either. Bobcat Goldthwait directed this film and he's proven that he is capable of mixing his irreverant comedy with touching drama. Great combination and definately worth checking out.
So if anyone have seen these movies, let me know what ya think. I love talking about movies. So if any of you are movie nerds or wanna be, I'm your guy. Tonight I am going to try to watch the Hitcher, so I'll give you my review of it ASAP.
Thanks!
