As promised, pictures from the trip.
A view from the small island on the lake that we canoed out to. Turns out Arjan doesnt have any experience with canoeing, and an uncanny ability to steer the canoe in very sharp curves from the front of the boat, depote all my effort to compensate in the back. However, when moved to the back (where, for those who are also unfamiliar, the steering should be happening) he somehow is unable to affect any sort of turning (even if i dont paddle at all). It was an interesting little canoe ride. We took the dog in the canoe, it took her awhile to adjust to it, but the finally found she could settle in between my legs. Which worked fine till a large black fly buzzed past (buzzing insects that resemble hornets are her mortal enamy and she has sworn war against them ever since that day she landed in a nest) so she suddenly was up and lunging after it, and nearly dumped the canoe in the process.
Maybry Mill in the Blue Ridge Mountains. We stopped here for breakfast while out by my Dads. The waitress asked Arjan how he wanted his eggs then said "Over easy right? Everyone who talks like you always wants them over easy." She then followed this statement with, "Ive always wanted to go to France."
A Statue and the Capital Building in DC.
Arjan with Tempest in front of the Reflecting Pool (she is highly intrigued because that whole wall is covered in duck shit ) We walked all over with her that day looking at all the monuments. Wore her right out.
Tempest and I taking a quick break on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial. This little old asian man had come up to us and was telling me "Good dog. Good dog." when Arjan took this pic. It was odd, it seemed like he didnt really speak much english, but he still apparently felt compeled to come up and share that thought with me.
Toward the end of the day we caught this awsome view with the clouds rolling in behind the washington monument.
In Philledalphia we walked about Washington Square Park. And came upon this memorial. As we stood there reading it, it occured to me what this was actual saying. "Hey folks, guess what! Your standing on a mass grave! But we sure did make it look pretty didnt we?" I turned to look around at all the dogs (i found it listed online as one of the dog friendly parks in the city) excitedly sniffing away at the ground, like the ground here smelled so much better than just normal ground.
New York City Street all lit up.
Arjan and I with the horse and carriage we rode around Central Park one nite.
Bed buddies. Arent they cute? Course one might ask, where is there room for me in this bed....
My cousins baby playing with the dog. Turns out she is just the right hieght to grab hold of her fur and pull himself up. At which point he can then pull on her ears, or her tail, or her collar... And she thought it was great.
Ray of light reflecting of the water into an alcove in central park.

Yeah, I'd like to see conservatives try to make political hay out of that one. The whole thing is so sad...
