This weeks blog homework: What is your guilty pleasure?
@charmaine @lyxzen @missy
I have two guilty pleasures :P The first one being that I am a huuuuge Buffy The Vampire Slayer fan and the second being my slight addiction to Black Milk clothing :P
I was about 11 when I first discovered BTVS :( I was stuck stuck at home recovering from knee surgery on crutches and couldn't move around too much. What else was I to do but hire dvd's (back in the early 2000's when hiring dvd's was still a thing) and watch back to back episodes.
I smashed through the first few seasons within a week and by the time I got to season 4 I was absolutely hooked!
Who else couldn't help but fall in love with the idea of Spike and Buffy? :)
Joss Whedon is amazing when it comes to creating TV shows and characters. Although it is a paranormal otherworldly series it's characters at heart were so relatable to me. Hitting my angst teen years when I wasn't lost in a book BTVS became my little 'go to' series when I was feeling a bit down. When the series ended I, along with thousands of fans were pretty bummed out. There of course was the spin of Angel running but it wasn't the same. Luckily BTVS did continue in comic book form. A form which I still buy religiously to this day :)
I had the pleasure of meeting Mercedes Mcnab who played 'Harmony' on the show a few years ago and she signed one of my comics. Sydney is hosting it's next Oz ComicCon in September and i'm super pumped because two more cast members are coming out! My inner nerd is just a little excited to meet Nicholas Brenden 'Xander' and Emma Caufield 'Anya'.
This brings my to my next guilty pleasure: Black Milk Clothing.
If anyone fellow Aussie's out there have ever worn Black Milk clothes you'll totally understand where i'm coming from when I say that wearing there gear feels like wearing silk. It's amazing! Coupled with the fact that it's super nerdy and you're in for a fantastic day.
If anyone on here has seen Joss Whedon's 'Firefly' series you'll know who Alan Tudyk is. It's this guy ->
And I was wearing my LOTR pants when I met him and he was blown away. Yup there's Gandalf's head at the bottom there haha "Fly you fools!"
There gear can be so bright and colourful and completely unlike anything you've ever seen before and it's a massive confidence booster to have strangers coming up to you complimenting your clothes or even having the courage to stand out and be different from the rest!
Sometimes they even bring a smile to the most unlikely people. For instance I had one older gentlemen get into a discussion with me about Star Wars one day when I was wearing my SW pants :) and the other week when I was wearing my Disney pants I had a little 5 year old girl follow me around the shops with her mouth open in a half smile trying to see all the characters on my legs.
When I caught her looking I smiled and she giggled and ducked behind a corner only to not so subtlety duck back out and continue to stare.
Black Milk clothes dare to be different and dare you to be confident. I've met and had some amazing conversations with complete strangers because of the clothes I wear and it puts a smile on my face each time it happens.
Who wouldn't want to have a little bit of there nerd showing every day :)
Xoxo
Kettle.
