yesterday i took my cat to the vet. he's been drinking a lot more water lately and i know that's one sign of diabetes. he's also been really active at 5 in the morning, trying to get me up so he could have more water and food.
so, after spending about an hour at the vet, she came back and told me, "good call, his glucose levels are at 500 and last year they were 150."
he's still quite active and happy, but now he's on this wet food for diabetic management and i have to give him a pill every 12 hours to help get his pancreas going again. ever have to give a pill to a 15 pound cat who doesn't want one? it's quite a feat. and to top it all off, his poop is stinky and sloppy, which isn't a good combo for a long haired cat.
it puts a little crimp in my plans for next weekend since i now have to board him with a clinic that will give him his special food and his pills. maybe they can shave him too since i was going to take him in to be groomed anyway. long hair + heat = sheding galore.
