So my mom's brother Ed died yesterday. He had jaw cancer several years ago that appeared to be treated, but recently he was developing tumors in his lungs and brain. His time was up.
Although death is sad, I think my mom's side of the family handles it really well. It's an occasion for people to get together and share great stories about the person. So there's a couple of things I want to share.
I heard that Ed's good friend Randy came to visit him in the hospital the day before he died. Ed really liked animals, so Randy smuggled a baby goat of his under his jacket! A nurse motioned to stop him, but he just refused to make eye contact with her. He caught an elevator just as it was closing. Ed petted the goat, smiled, and it was one of his last lucid moments.
Ed would have had a birthday this coming Friday, and his daughter really wanted to make a cake for him. My mom told her to make it anyway and bring it to his service. I know that his father definitely would have appreciated that sort of thing, and as Ed was sober in the later years in his life, I saw how much he was like grandpa.
One of Ed's dying wishes was that his bunny and cat be placed together since they are good companions. Does anyone want a bunny and an Ocicat?
