It's been a pretty good weekend so far!
Last night, I went and saw Dave Attell perform at the Addison Improv with my brother, a couple co-workers and one of their dates. It was hilarious, as expected. Sean Rouse was the opening comedian - I had never heard of him before, but he was also pretty damn funny, and had no problem crossing any fucking line he felt like.
Here was one of Rouse's jokes, really roughly paraphrased:
"Now, you've all heard of that woman in Plano that killed her children by cutting their arms off. They convicted her as insane.
I don't think she was really insane. I think she was just a really dedicated soccer mom. You've got to love that dedication to the sport."
Oh, it just hurts to have jokes that are that disturbing that I can't help laughing at.
Today my mother-in-law came into town for a couple hours (she's a truck driver). She stopped in because she wanted to buy my wife and I a housewarming gift (we moved into the place in July). We ended up having her get us a turntable! I haven't had a turntable since the one at my parent's house in high school. We bought about a dozen albums at the Plano Library Book sale last year for $1.50 each, though, and figured it would be great to have just for background ambiance. Here's a small sample of our admittedly tiny, sad album collection:
Aerosmith - Toys in the Attic
AC/DC - Highway to Hell
Simon and Garfunkel - Greatest Hits
Billy Joel - Glass Houses
Def Leppard - Pyromania and High and Dry
Sound of Music soundtrack
A Bing Crosby Christmas
I think we'll be hitting up a few record shops here or there.
Speaking of which, I just found out this weekend that the Suicidegirls will be at Good Records in Dallas on Tuesday night. Even though I really don't know any of the SGs, I think I may stop by to say hello!
