OH My goodness...this weekend is going to AMAZING!!!!
I don't know if I've talked about it a lot, but my life has been hugely affected by music for many many years now. When I was 10, I started learning to play the bagpipes. One night at bagpipe band practice (I play for Kanawha Valley Pipes and Drums, if anyone is into that culture and may have heard of them) I decided to fill in on bass drum since i wasn't advanced enough to play a full set of pipes and the bass drummer was out of town. After that night, I knew my life was changed significantly for good...now almost 12 years later, I still play drums--mostly highland snare, but I can still rock bass and tenor--and the whole bagpipe culture still plays a huge role in the person I have become.
In recent years, another major influence has taken over my musical tastes--punk rock. That is how I met my very amazing boyfriend after all...he's the bassist for a local punk band call Sarasota. So suffice it to say, any combination of those two influences is pretty goddamn amazing in my book.
The past few years of my life(until recently, that is) have been devoted to making a man happy who could never do the same for me. We are still very close friends, but my ex husband and I never really had the desire to spend time together, and thus put our mutual and personal interests on hold just to toil life away trying to pay the bills, which meant my love for music pretty much fell by the wayside.
So guess what my amazing boyfriend is doing for me this weekend? Taking me to see the DROPKICK MURPHYS!!!! I cannot tell you how excited I am! It's pretty much the first time I've left the state for anything awesome in 5 or 6 years now(besides to go visit Heroine to shoot my set) and I can't fucking wait! I know lots of people on here go to shows all the time and it's not a big deal, but to me, getting to see one of my very favorite bands in a club venue with my favorite person in the world is the raddest thing ever! It just confirms to me that no matter what bullshit I've had to deal with in the past few months, I have made the right decisions and I'm finally living the life I always dreamed I'd have. I can't wait to come back and tell you what a great time I had because I'm sure it will be fucking awesome
Until then, check out what Saturday night looked like after the bar hopping and marathon tattooing session...we were all pretty hammered.
