On September 13th, 2008, my family's beloved kitty, Sebastian, also known as Sabbie, suddenly passed away. My family was shocked. I was shocked. We grieve together, though we are miles apart. My parents bear the pain of coming home from work every day with no Sabbie. In a few short months when the holidays are near, I too will bear that pain upon returning home.

Sebastian was just shy of ten years old when he passed away. My grandma discovered him, a gaunt and neglected stray, in a Hardees parking lot one summer. She took him in, gave him love (and an unforgettable flea bath), and eventually, my household adopted him. He always loved playing, napping, snacking (he was a chubby baby), and lounging. He and Kiefer were very close friends.

Sebastian was the main man; he was the boss. He intimated the other kitties and even some guests, but he always warmed up when he was good and ready. His vivacious purr could melt even the grumpiest heart. His presence was so strong that he seemed like another father figure. He was an extrovert in every sense.

I went home a week before the school year began to visit my family, and whilst home, I felt like taking some photographs of my lovely animals (though Kiefer was feeling camera shy on this particular day). Sebastian slept with me on my bed all three nights of my stay.

In the early afternoon, with sunlight pouring in on his sleepy head, he looks peaceful and beautiful.

I miss him terribly.

Little by little, pieces of my childhood... they fade, fade, fade, and disappear. I am an adult with bills to pay, portfolios to build, careers to initiate, relationships to maintain... growing up doesn't happen gradually. Change can slap you in the face. Change is painful and difficult.

R.I.P. Sebastian McKeehen. You are loved.

thanks erica. my ex-boyfriend dealt with awful migraines, so I know how awful it can be. We all have shitty things to go through--and yeah, I usually don't make it a priority or anything to let people know about my fibro. I'm usually also pretty good at ignoring the pain so I'm not a total bitch to everyone around me, hah. Some days though I just completely break down.
