I have about an hour until class, so I suppose it's time to churn out another generic blog update since I have been far and away since my last update in April. Actually, exactly a month ago. I'm just now realizing that it's been that long.
Washington D.C. was amazing. I want to go back immediately. Unfortunately, I experienced a bought of illness during the trip. I became car sick during the ride to Washington D.C., and I experienced periods of nausea throughout the trip. I even vomited twice, and vomiting is not an Erica thing to do. I don't really know what came over me, but it was unpleasant. Anyways. Details of the trip. I saw the White House, the Washington Monument, Arlington Cemetery, three art museums including the Smithsonian, the Natural History Museum, the National Archives, the WWII memorial, and my personal favorite, the Lincoln Memorial. I also took a tour of Congress, which was pretty neat. However, I really want to go back and see the Holocaust Museum, the National Aquarium, the National Zoo, the Vietnam Memorial, the Korean War Memorial, and the Jefferson Memorial. Two days was simply not enough time.
I took a lot of great photographs, but I haven't the energy or resources to share them now. Plus I'm in the library, not in the comfort of my own dorm room. Those are just some viable excuses for all of you disappointed readers.
The school year is winding down and I am eternally grateful. Jill and I selected our residence for next year. Several of our friends are living in the same dorm and on the same floor, so it should be an interesting year ahead. I should also note that it's an honors dorm. I should also also note that because I have maintained a 4.0 GPA, I received the prestigious Dean's Scholarship for next year. Yay for monies.
Pretty soon I'll be scheduling my classes for autumn quarter. I know that I'll be taking a Photoshop class, but that's about all I know for now. I won't be in a shooting class until spring of next year. It sucks but that's just the way the classes are arranged for commercial photo majors here at THEE Ohio University, est. 1804. I spoke with my advisor on Tuesday, and he was very friendly and informative regarding the camera fiasco with commercial photo students. See, I was under the impression that all photography was digital on our campus, but commercial and art photo students use film cameras and develop their own film once they enter the more advanced classes. I told him I was concerned because I already purchased an expensive digital SLR for my first two photo classes, and I know that the film cameras used in the advanced classes are very expensive, around $4,000 a piece, and require many pricey accessories. Additionally, I have absolutely no experience in a dark room. But he informed me that the system is always changing, and that my classes may or may not be strictly film. He also said that my digital SLR will always be of use to me and my major. Phew. Relief. Eventually though, I will probably have to purchase a ridiculously high priced film camera. Boo.
My sister is in L.A. right now. She'll be there for about a month. Lucky.
I finish the school year early next month. Then it's work and play time for me until September 1st when the college cycle begins again. Music Festivals and Baker's Pizza. And Dan Lange and Columbus excursions. Good times, good times.
This computer is ridiculous. The keyboard doesn't recognize at symbols, question marks, parentheses, or dashes. As you can imagine, writing this blog was a challenge.
On that note, I'm out. Happy belated birthday to Damein, happy actual birthday to Bono, and happy birthday tomorrow to some other stubborn Taurus in the world.
