Oh the joys of chasing one of your great danes in the forest.
Scooby was running and playing with a stick on the trail, and just was we were to hook him back up onto his leash to walk back home, he caught a scent and took off. Got a bit freaked because there are hunters in the area; as their are packs of coyotes, some wolves, deer, etc. So I went into the forest after him. But alas....this forest isn't just any forest..it's a damn marsh with cedar trees forest. So, with my skate shoes on, I truck on through the half frozen sinkholes, etc. I ended up twisting my ankle in a tree trunk hole.
Anyways, I finally find Scooby, he's walking around with his head to the ground sniffing away, with his ears straight up and forward. Scooby is a Dane without cropped ears, so this was even more evident that he was purely in hunting/tracking mode. He spotted me, came close, pounced then took off. So I'd follow his tracks some more......
he came around again, I snapped a branch off a half dead tree and threw it in his direction. it hit a tree, broke in half, he picked up the other half an ran off.... any other time he'd run TO me to throw it again. So, i start chasing him back towards the trail, and Mum ends up catching him as he ran up the hill to the trail.
My jeans were soaked to my knees, my feet wet, ears frozen and just plain cold. This joy of a trip took 45 mins. Hooray!
He's in his crate right now, and my other dane's freaked out because he's in the cage, she's not sure if she's supposed to be in trouble too.
Gata love animals!

...but I don't know too many that would send people chasing after them through a marsh in the dead of winter.
