NEWS:
My sister had a baby this morning. This is #2 for her. A boy. They're going to call him Roland. They took him by c-section, and my Grandma just called to say it went fine. We'll go this afternoon to see her. Better thee than me, sis!
Rebecca is going to quit her job and be a housewife. Turned in her two week notice today. This was entirely her idea, and I have no problem with it if that's what she really wants. It does mean, however, that I'll need to get a second job. No biggie.
Our new apartment really sucks.
Well, not the apartment itself, but the building. Their "renovations" seemed to consist of tearing the whole place up and then not putting it back together. When we moved in in July, all the tile and carpet in the hallways was torn up, the pool was torn up, the walls in the hallway were torn up, the elevators were torn up... and.... they're still exactly the same. The place was cheap and they were running a special because of the renovations, but I had no idea that they wouldn't follow through on actually, y'know, doing it. I tell every person I see checking out the building about all the bullshit.
The other day there was an asbestos crew on the bottom floor in hazmat suits.
The trash chute was inaccessable for a week. We had to leave our garbage bags in the hall so the housekeeper could pick them up. That smelled like you can imagine.
The air conditioner is... feeble... on 100 degree days, we're lucky to get it down below 80 in here.
I had two minor cosmetic maintenance requests (new blinds and a strip for where the tile meets the carpet in the bathroom) when we moved in... and they still haven't fixed them. That was over two months ago.
And this morning there's a leak coming down from our bathroom ceiling, which is ballooning the spackle.
And I've switched to Linux. I've tried several "distros" (different versions), but I think I've settled on MEPIS, which is a variant of Debian. First I tried Knoppix, then SuSE, then Fedora Core 4. I like MEPIS because I was interested in Debian, and MEPIS is the only I tried where propietary things like MP3s, PDFs, and DVD playback worked right away. In fact, more things have "just worked" in MEPIS than any of the others I've tried thus far. So I like it.
That's the news.

I'd hit the linux if I didn't already have so much invested in my windows box, software-wise.
Strangely enough, I get my *nix kicks off of my Mac.
