I noticed just now that Callidia has dragged the mouse she ate the head off of earlier up to the top level of her cage, next to her hammock, presumably for her midnight snacking convenience.
Now, the ferret's cage sits on a night-stand on one side of the bed (the other side, of course, having the lube, cell phones, and alarm clock type things). Because my wife has to get up at a certain time for work, earlier than I do, she sleeps on the side with the alarm -- otherwise I will just smack the alarm and go back to sleep without her ever waking up. (She's one of those people who has no idea who, where, why, when, or what they are for a few minutes after waking up -- picture Admiral Stockdale in the 1992 Vice Presidential debates: "Who am I? Why am I here?") So anyway, this leaves me sleeping right next to the ferrets. In fact, the back wall of their litter box is right by my head (luckily their poop is small and not stinky, to me anyway).
Which brings me back to the mouse. Today was their first day eating mice, and man, I better not get showered with mouse guts in the middle of the night...

friedbanana:
Ferrets are awesome. My friend had a couple even though they are illegal here. Smelly though!
