Yeah, the Zen traditions are known for being hard asses. If you hook up with a vipassana (i.e. Theraveda, i.e. Hinayana) temple, they'll take it a little easier on your body. Meditating through sheer physical pain is an extremely powerful thing to do, but no good if it keeps you from meditating!

I live about an hour away from Mt. Baldy, where Joshu Sosaki Roshi is the man. SInce he's like 96 years old, I keep telling myself that I have to go up there and do a sesshin, but I keep whimping out. It's the real deal.
