My mail today was all fucked up. My IKEA catalog looked like a puppy had gnawed on one side of it for an hour, and today's promo CD package was WIDE OPEN. Doesn't look like anything was missing, though.
I forgot to say that we finally saw Team America: World Police the other day, and it was very funny. Took the piss out of everyone, except, ironically, Tre Parker and Matt Stone. Funny how they get to excoriate anyone *else* in the entertainment business who injects their political opinions into their art, while injecting their own political opinions into Southpark and this movie by the ton. Did you know some people call themselves "Southpark Republicans"?
And it frightens me that someone will go away from that movie seriously thinking that the "pussies, dicks, and assholes" analogy is a good way to look at the world. And did you notice the conspicuous absence of Bush & company?
But I liked the movie, anyway. I like the jokes about how Americans fuck everything up unwittingly while having mostly noble intentions. For example, even if Bush Co. doesn't have good intentions, the average soldier in Iraq, and the average Bush supporter at home, *genuinely* want (and believe) in) "freedom" for Iraq.
I also enjoyed thinking about, and trying to see, the subtle details of the puppeteering and model work. I was thinking that there must be only a few dozen people still alive (I'm not one of them) that would truly be able to appreciate everything in this movie -- all the techniques and references, and how admirable it was for Parker & Stone to revive such a lost art form and put so much effort into it even while knowing the true scale of their achievement would be lost on 99% of people..
Here's my blurb for the poster: "A very entertaining, funny, and clever piece of pro-war propaghanda!"
...so lick my butt and suck on my balls! America! Fuck yeah!
