I don't know if you guys know, but I've been working nights this year. Tonight is one of my nights off, so I'm up by myself just listening to music so loud that I can hardly think of anything else.

Life is good. Listening to my proto-"Best of 2008" mix so I can tag it on Last.fm.

The dogs are even so sound asleep that they don't even stir when I step out for a cigarette, and they usually can't resist following me to the front door every time. I love watching their noses and feet twitch while they dream. Who said dogs don't have a consciousness? I would love to be able to really know what it's like to be in their heads, but it must be nice. They seem so happy all the time. They're not worried about the rent or the economy or Afghanistan or their job or clothes or anything else besides being comfortable, well fed, and getting attention. Dogs are natural zen masters, I think. Always living in the moment, content with their lot. I wish I could be more like them.

Rebecca and I spent most of the evening planning and talking about our plans to go to Disney World in a year or so. Really expensive, but I think we're going to go in the off season and pitch a tent in their onsite campground area. Sounds like fun. Apparently every night at 7 in the camping area they have a bonfire, roast marshmallows, sing camp songs, and then watch a Disney movie. That would make my wife really happy, and thus, make me happy too.

At work I got transferred to a different store this week. Not too happy about it, but there's nothing I can do. This store is in the ghetto a bit. Last night I actually swept up a used syringe in the parking lot. Two nights in a row I had to kick homeless people out for asking customers for money. I think next week I'm going to yet another store, though, so hopefully that one will be in a better area.

It's funny I found out the easiest way to tell whether a store is in the 'hood at a glance: what newspapers they do or don't carry. No New York Times, Wall Street Journal, Investor's Business Daily, etc, at all? Bad sign.
