You know, I think the biggest weakness in the original Star Wars films and just about the only thing they got right in the newer trilogy are the lightsaber duels. Lightsaber duels in the new films look much more like what you'd expect from two highly trained swordsmen with mystical superpowers -- whirling, lightning fast, and completely beyond someone with normal human reflexes. In the original trilogy they seem to just clumsily hack at each other like they're fencing with baseball bats. I've heard this retconned by fanboys by noting that Luke probably had almost no formal training in lightsaber combat, Obi Wan was an old man, and Vader was also older and crippled, but this is unsatisfying to me because of the examples of Count Dooku and Yoda's performance in the newer movies, even though Dooku was at least as old in the newer films as Obi-Wan was in the originals, and Yoda was already hundreds of years old.
Obviously the only explanation is the mundane one that they couldn't do it in the earlier films because of technical limitations, or they just didn't think it was a priority, but I still wish they had tried harder every time I watch the old movies.
This has been your nerdy rant of the day.

And really.. midichlorians? Possibly the lamest plot device ever...
Brian Posehn has a great bit where he compares Lucas to your cool uncle who one year at xmas decides to put his dick in your ear.
but yeah I loved the lightsaber duels in the new movies, most of the rest of them were just .. not so great actually
