We had the best day we've had in recent memory today.
As you know, Rebecca started working at the hotel too. Today was the first payday since then. We also achieved our highest revenue goal for January, so we both got big bonuses on this check. After taxes, between the two of us, we had $1,500. Holy shit.
We put it to good use.
First we went to open a bank account, but their little check showed that, since I owed another bank money, they wouldn't do it. Oh well. So we just got our checks in cash.
Backstory: we have been so poor that we've been driving without liability insurance, and since I didn't pay my insurance bill last time we had it, my license got suspended. Call me insane -- I know -- but I've been driving without insurance on a suspended license for over a year. But I knew it would be over $300 to get it done, and the way we've been living on just one income, we never had more than pennies, literally, left over every payday. So we just winged it, and weeks became months, months became years. You know how it goes. But it was a big burden on my shoulders, feeling like every time I got in the car I was rolling the dice (because I was), and knowing that a critical failure would land me in jail and get the car impounded.
So anyway, we went and got insurance on the car ($110), paid the cable bill -- in full -- ($200), went to the Department of Public Safety, paid my fines and got my license reinstated ($225), paid the rent ($440), put gas in the car, ate lunch, got a new graphics card for Rebecca's computer, two 60-day World of Warcraft cards... and still have more money left over than we ever had after taking care of the bills on any paycheck before.
I'm not sure if I've ever cried from happiness before, but as we were pulling out of the Department of Public Safety with myself at the helm for the first time in years completely free and legal, I just bawled. So much worry off my chest.
Next paycheck, we'll pay the phone bill, get the Escort fixed, get Rebecca on birth control, and get a new graphics card for my computer. And still have plenty left over again. Fucking a'. I haven't felt hope... like things were looking up for us... like this... in such a long time. It feels good.
I'm also thinking of saving up to get my boy parts snipped, y'know? So we can cross off the whole 'baby' thing from life's dreadful possibilities.
