So as you all might know, I recently graduated cosmetology school. But in order to be released for state boards testing, I have to finish a "senior project" that includes a mentor packet on someone who inspires us.
Much to my campus director's surprise I'm sure, I've chosen Marilyn Manson. :)
Interesting choice, no? I'm sure you guys and gals on here understand better than people in the "real world" about what it's like to be misunderstood and judged, and I'm sure a lot of you are fans of Manson just as I am. So I thought I would share my opening paragraph with you:
"Manson and I are very alike, as bizarre as that sounds. We have both been widely judged negatively and either just brushed it off or fed off of it. He’s been the center of blame for several instances (tragedies), despite having no actual involvement, just because he was scary to most and no one bothered to actually understand him. In my life I’ve found myself in that same position on many occasions, even recently. When I was an angry little goth girl in middle school, I of course loved his music, I still do. But looking more into him I felt he understood me better than anyone else at the time ever could. People see Manson as this messed up guy who just likes to be a messed up guy, but he purposefully stands for something. Breaking out of what you’re born and raised into. Pushing your own (and everyone else’s) limitations. Art, literature, and shock value. He’s a living example of “don’t judge a book by its cover”."
I would share the rest of my mentor packet too, but it's probably not as interesting andddd also it's not done yet. Hahaha! I'm pretty excited to present this at a later date. There's really no one else I can think of who interests, inspires and motivates me like Manson and his work.
Thanks for reading xo
