"It Wasn't Enough"
well, i got the shock of my life yesterday...well..okay, not the shock of my life, but shock of the week. the HR person was lurking around yesterday talking to the owner and the manager (no big surprise) in the office, i was working the phones taking phone orders in a side office across the hallway with another lady, but i had been called up in the middle of things to go bus tables. up comes the office guy to change the sign on the outside door that had been advertising the agm position. i turned to him and said, "what does this mean?" he came up to me, patted me on the shoulder, and said, "i'm sorry; but they've hired somebody else from the outside". i then said, "what is wrong with these people, that they cannot even come up to me and tell me the truth?" he then turned again to me and said, "don't you get it? they've promised other people the job too then changed their minds, i was one of the promised too".
whoa. that guy was my friend there too. so they screwed him over also.....
so back i go, into the office next to the main office (across a 3 foot hallway) to take catering and phone orders. the owner, hr person, and the manager aren't really discreet. i'm sitting there and they are talking "_____" pss pss pss psss "_____" (the blank represents my real name) pss pss pss(so of course i got up and went into the hallway to "get something" and listen in): "okay then friday we'll tell '_____' and hopefully she'll be okay, she'll probably be upset, we should prepare for that." it turn to the other person working the phones, also taking orders, and say "wow; this hurts". the other phone person (a woman in her 50's who does the phone ordering everyday) looked at me and said, "you just weren't what they wanted, i'm so sorry, everyone knows but you apparently and i am so sorry for you to hear it like this".
so i poked in my head next door. "i'm in the next room and i can hear what you're saying about me, guys, so it's obvious my days are numbered here? thanks for the lack of professionalism. if i had known this is what you had planned, i would've been out of here 2 weeks ago, but instead you made this one long drawn out piece of bullshit."
exit stage right.
the guy is upset. i'm upset. but all i can do now, is take a deep, long breath, be good to myself, and keep on truckin'.
at least i can still use his friend for a reference.
