So one of the kindest men ever has passed away. He was always singing songs and telling stories. I heard he was angry once only, when my dad was a little boy and drilled a hole into the floor. I guess he didn't need to stress and yell otherwise because he was truly happy with the life he got.
Growing up without his mother (she was "mad" they told him, apparently because she got him out of wedlock) and then as an adult finally getting a whole family, him and my grandmother raised five kids, he seemed to always work for the best of his family.
Lately, as it was only the two of them left in their house, he always cared for her. Never a harsh word, never any of those ugly things you can hear some old people say to each other. He always just smiled at her, sang lovesongs and tried to get her to sit on his lap like some youngblooded Romeo...Even when he lost his memory to the extent where he forgot the names of his children, he always remembered her, always had something nice to say to her.
I imagine him now, in some eternal garden, walking around as patient as ever, watching the vegetables grow and waiting for my grandmother to join him for afternoon tea.
So I guess...swedish word of today: farfar - meaning fathers father = grandfather.
