Maybe it's a bad idea to start off a relationship with sex. He's clingy as hell and I'm getting stand-offish as hell.

Sex to start is fine. If ti's good sex, it's a great way to start. The guy would have been clingly either way. If he is not what oyu want in a man, thank him for the sex and kick him to the curb. Now is better. it will get harder later with more drama.
