I'm having a bad day.
It's my last summer in San Diego, and my friend Oz and I had planned on going to Coachella. Even though it's expensive ($300 for a three-day pass), she thought it would be a great way to blow off steam after her MCATs. We agreed that I would pay for the tickets up front, and she would book our hotel room and pay the rest later when she had the money (smart people have an idea where this is going).
She called me on the phone about two weeks ago telling me how excited she was and that she had booked her flight. In the morning, I got her flight confirmation in my inbox
for April 30th.
Coachella is April 17th.
And that's when it all exploded. Apparently, every year before this one, Coachella has been the last weekend in April. Oz was so sure of this that she didn't even think to check the date before booking her flight. And the kicker? She takes her MCATs on the 18th, right during Coachella.
Oz made a valiant effort to work it out, but beyond rescheduling fees for both her flight and her MCATs, she would have had to delay her medical school applications by two weeks. It just wasn't going to work. I'm bewildered that she could make such a foolish mistake. She's one of the most responsible people I know.
I'm not sure what I'm going to do. She offered to sell off her ticket and eat the loss, but I'm not sure if I want to go by myself. I was really looking forward to a trip for the both of us, and going to a three day concert alone seems depressing. Not to mention I'd have to pay twice as much for lodging if I went alone. I haven't found anyone else to go with yet most of my friends are broke, live out of state, or both.
It's a shitty situation, for sure.
In other news, I've been working 60 hour weeks. My tutoring job gave me a raise, but it was small. I finished up a class last night, and they were ridiculous and fun, per the usual. I fly out to Houston to visit Rice tomorrow. I haven't packed or even thought about it. I've been having weird muscle spasms which I assume are due to stress.
Uf. Life.

Now: Star Trek. I... don't know. I'm sure I'll hate it.
