I've been tutoring LS for almost a year. She's my most hard-working student. When LS first started working with me, the SAT gave her panic attacks. She couldn't complete an exam at home by herself without stopping. Her math skills were at a 6th grade level, and ADHD made even finishing the test a struggle. Needless to say, her scores were below average; she didn't... Read More
Nice one.
I lived in Rancho Santa Fe, CA for 2 years, people there are pretty much as wealthy as the La Jolla ones, if not more. And none of the kids i saw will ever experience the normal life. They all live in their very own golden bubble, which makes me extremly sad for them, and sometimes kinda jealous.
I knew many LSs in my time and man was I ever pissed off. Especially when they get away with whatever they wanted. At least yours has tried to improve her mental acumen. Those assholes I knew only cared about the contacts they made and the size of their accounts.
Sadly, I had to give that band up because I closely associated them with a certain someone who turned out to be crap. So yeah. Haven't heard anything of theirs since '06. Aw. Sob story. Whatever.
Some people's sets I can no longer look at because I've become so close with them. For me, it's like looking at my very attractive and uber-liberal-with-the-ink-and-metal-and-bikini-wax sisters. *shudder*
Inspired by this group, I bring you todays blog. Now that Ive formally accepted my offer at Rice, Im naturally getting sentimental about my life in San Diego, despite all the trouble and bitterness it has brought me at times. I know I will miss it here. Its not so much the weather; Ive never cared about that. Justcomfort. This is my home. This... Read More
I have heard so many good things about Avenue Q that I think I must go see it. I do love musicals; my parents would take me to plays and musicals all the time as a child.
Also, I hope those kabobs are delicious, because I will so risk getting stabbed. I'm dumb like that.
Wow...leaving San Diego for Houston. Very different cities. As a native Californian, I can't imagine not living in CA and being so close to all of the awesome things here. The fact you're near the beach and the mountains, great music, awesome sights. And San Diego is a great city. Texas has some great things to offer too, I just know I couldn't move away from the Pacific Ocean.
Maybe it's a case of absence making the heart grow fonder? Either way, good luck!
When my family and I first moved to Naperville in 1992, I remember this conversation between my mother, father, and me in the back of "La Bamba," my mother's affectionately named Ford Escort.
"Mom? You know all those names, like BA, and PhD? What do those mean?"
"Well, when you go to college you can get a BA. And if you go to... Read More
The most annoying thing about "natural cures for a UTI" is that the standard antibiotics to treat a UTI are $4 at Wal-Mart, Target, Walgreens, or pretty much any major pharmacy. People without health insurance can get the actual treatment for less than they'd spend on alternative treatments that don't work. Cranberry juice is kind of expensive.
The most expensive part would be the doctor visit to get the prescription to begin with. Cash payment for basic things such as UTI treatments typically run under $70 at the same places you'd get the $4 prescription. And pretty much any Planned Parenthood location can handle a UTI; I don't know their exact prices, but they have a sliding fee scale. People without health insurance will pay what PP thinks they can afford.
But it's like people assume they can't get treatment because they aren't insured, so they don't even bother to look into their options.
It's my last summer in San Diego, and my friend Oz and I had planned on going to Coachella. Even though it's expensive ($300 for a three-day pass), she thought it would be a great way to blow off steam after her MCATs. We agreed that I would pay for the tickets up front, and she would book our... Read More
I wish I didn't know a new Trek movie was coming out. a) It's a PREQUEL. b) They've completely disregarded Roddenberry's original vision. From the previews, it reminds me of Star Wars... all flash, barely any substance. Plus, it's directed by JJ "I'm responsible for the bullshit that was Cloverfield" Abrams. So yeah. meh.
I'm considering going to this Zombie Prom thing, but I fear the combination of alcohol and sexy people will make for supreme Katie awkwardness. I'm always a wallflower at fancy shmancy parties like that, and I doubt the undead will provide much of an ice breaker ("You like brains too? GET OUT!"). It's sad, but I feel most comfortable in dry, academic settings. Maybe I'll... Read More
I mentioned a while back that I embarked upon a daily video diary project. I can't believe I've been working on it for 5 months now, but the results have been exciting and interesting. Sadly, I have neglected my paper diary because of this, but you can only talk about yourself so much, right?
Anyways, I made a special SG edition of video diary... Read More
Well, that ship has sailed now, hasn't it? The waiting, the hoping, it's all over and now we're stuck with each other. Pass the doritos, I have some premature aging to do...
I am so tickled by this entry, with the exception of the "sad thing" part. Apparently, we can all do without them , but we can't live without them. It comes with the territory.
I do enjoy it! I know that's weird. But I really like it. It has something to do with the fact that I like the professor a lot; I'm also taking Schopenhauer/Nietzsche with him. I'm bad at math but I enjoy it, so this is like cheating my way into a fun math class.
Well it won't be till May or June, but yeah I decided on buying a house in Austin. The place is about 2 blocks from my brother and really nice. Nothing is etched in stone yet but that is the plan as of now.
Even if I get the house I might rent it out for a year depending on the job situation and if I have money after that to afford moving halfway across the country.
the trip back went well enough, except for the part where i made it back to south carolina.
And yeah, I'm kind of a ninja when it comes to the friend requests
