If I remember correctly, you were saying something about the sliding brown bar on the old cable boxes. But you know, now that I think of it, I think we had one of those "pay TV" channels back then - you waited until about 7 pm, then switched on the box to unscramble the picture. I think it was called ONTV or something like that.
