You are incredibly talented, mate. Your voice is a gift. PLEASE don't take it for granted! Use it while you can - not only to bring joy to others, but also to sustain your soul. As a fellow artist, I know how important it is to have a creative outlet - one that allows you to truly express yourself, in turn making you feel worthy & whole.
I do, however, realise that people in your line of work are not paid what they should be - in this country anyway. It's actually a disgrace. But I digress! Back to the subject at hand: If it's a case of looking for another avenue career-wise for predominantly financial reasons, then why not try your hand at something else part-time - to at least bring in some extra cash, without having to compromise your budding opera career? Not that I know an awful lot about opera, but from what I have seen / heard, you still have DECADES of work in your voice yet!!
Just remember: life doesn't always have to be black & white, one or the other. There are plenty of other 'grey' routes inbetween, often turning out to be much safer & more satisfying in the long run. I trust you will make a wise decision. Good luck!!
you have an amazing voice, i hope you decide to pursue your opera career, if not here then overseas. seeing fellow south africans with amazing talent succeed in their fields is always great.
