Get yer work uploaded to illustrationmundo.com or 5oup.com. Both will have dedicated audiences and collaborators on, which should drum up some support for your work.
On a lesser note, have a look at Depthcore.com too. Apparently, that one is tricky to join and is more more fantasy and abstract artists, but it might be worth a gander.
Oh, and virb.com is another myspace/facebookesque site but its more focused on creative types and the design is generally better.
If I were you I'd design some t-shirts and badges to throw about while you're gigging too. Because people are lookin' at ya.
