Liberation feels so sweet.
When you break yourself free from something you know is holding you back, it's a great feeling. I broke up with my girlfriend of 10 months just last week, and it's been an awakening of sorts. I realize now that there is only one thing I can be to anybody in the world: myself. And whatever they take that to mean is up to them.
It's sad when people expect you to be something you're not, and even sadder when they can't accept what you actually are. Possibly the more tragic truth is not being accepting of yourself, thinking that something is wrong with you if you aren't what everyone wants you to be.
Still, people judge. It's painful when someone you care about passes judgement on you and decides that they're somehow "better" than you. We're all equal. We all fuck up. We all have our shortcomings. And we're all essentially good people at the roots. I wonder sometimes why it's so hard for some people to understand that...
