I spent a week in America, and am now more ready than ever to leave this horrible country. Japan is nice to visit and all, but when it's obvious that I need some help and all the Japanese do is laugh and point at the gaijin, it gets to one's nerves right quick.
On a more sinister note, part of my mini vacation was spent at the H.P. Lovecraft Film Festival in Portland, OR. It was filled with Freaks Like Me and brimming over with spectacular movies and shorts...
Okay, maybe spectacular is too strong a word.
The festival was highly entertaining, and stunningly interesting. I even gots me a "Hello Cthulhu" shirt. It makes me cute.
I miss my friends from Home.
[Viscious Koi] is full of crazy, but the ebullience hidden behind her death threats is worth uncovering. Her smile makes it easier to breathe...and she bakes a mean pumpkin pie.
[Belarius] is in line to be king of the nerds. That is a big compliment in my circle, believe you me. His hospitality is unending, and his intellectual prowess unmatched. Also: really good at Halo.
[Lyndrasia]: a pixie trapped in a human body. She's often up to no good, but it's the no good that everyone enjoys. Apart from being a hottie and an artist great in scope, her humor is infectious enough to make her everyone's good friend.
[Harlequin] makes spectacular mint ice cream, and can leap tall buildings in a single bound...or stick to walls and ceilings like a spider- one or the other. He's a better friend than I at first gave him credit for, and now I wish I had been less stupid and more trusting.
[Whitey] has another name, but we'll stick to the handle I first knew him by. Probably one of the nicest people I know, his gentle demeanor belies his ability to quickly and soundly beat your tail. He seems to think about what he says before allowing it to escape his lips, which is no small talent.
There are a score of others, but it's late here, and I need sleep or cake. Sadly, there is no cake to be had, so...
