So after two years of an empty pool, we've finally fixed, painted, filled and opened the pool for summer.
Why such a huge period of empty no swimming? well alittle over two years ago i heard screaming, so I go to my sliding glass door that over looks our pool and lack of a backyard. I can hear this woman moaning and screaming.. it was so aweful. It was something i will never forget. I knew something horrible had happened but not what.
I go out a little later and all my neighbors are buzzing about outside their houses and some are walking out around the block. I find out that the woman i heard screamed was a neighbor who lived two houses over from me on the opposite street. She had just discovered her one and half year old, son, completely blue, swollen lips, under the surface water of their pool. the gate had been left open and dad was supposed to be watching him.
Now we could blame dad, that is easy enough since most accidents and fatalities of children happen in the care of the father (about 80%) but i think that is true only because mom's are usually the primary care giver and know their childrens limitations, just by being around them. For me blame doesn't bring the child back.. its just a wasted effort.
As for my neighbors, they cleaned up the house and moved away.
Now I have children. and a pool. my youngest at the time was only six months older than the boy who drowned. She had gone in the pool many times, slipped under the water, get pulled out of it, only to go right back in! (quick learner, huh?) So I quickly said to hubby that the pool needs to be emptied, not because of our kids and the drowning hazard on my mind but because the water was old and the pool needed work (true enough), so we emptied the pool. We were going to painted it and open it last year but it didn't happen. not saying that i tried all that hard to get it done. honestly i think my subconcieous was sabotoging me.
So now we have our pool and our kids that love being in it.. and me.. worried. Swimming lessons and a 800$ pool cover our my hope that my kids don't drown in my care - let alone his.
Question:
1)did you ever want a house with a pool?
2) do you still want one with a pool?
3)have any suggestions for me to keep my kids safer?
This was the best poem written about aiurea and her infamous star scars
Glitter little fairy
Sparkle tiny stars
Enter sweet lady
into our hearts
Flash
Images not had
Something is bad
Burn
Skin rises red
Heart feels dread
Panic
Peel the stars away
Little sores stay
Sooth
soap water spray
wash poison away
Suffer
for the ignorance
water please rinse
Beauty
oh heavenly eyes
Need never burn your thighs
Listen
Glisten
Spork said Krazy Glue
Now you lament
never again will you
use rubber cement
