Went out last night with Steph, supposedly to do research with her for her paper on sex industries on Guam. Yeah, that didn't happen. She's fighting with her boyfriend, so we stopped by a bar . . . and didn't leave until midnight, with a group of guys that we met there. Some very nice lookers in that group, at least two worth mentioning, but...

Things have been going well here on this hellishly sunny and cheerful island. Talked to one of my best friends from back home today whom I haven't heard from for about a year. So I'm all kinds of giddy over that. And Hila started giving Polynesian dance lessons tonight, and it turns out I'm a natural! Yay! biggrin
I had a thought today. The internet is...

It is true that the internet connects like minded people across the globe and this could become another form of segregation, the real determining factor is the person. Yes, I speak with mostly like minded people on the internet, but I am a very open minded person and like to learn different things from people. I have met and talked to very different people (although, admittedly, we shared some sort of common interest for the most part) Not everyone though. I've met and talked to people I wouldn't think I would have ended up talking to IRL for one reason or another (Like my Iraqi friend). The internet does afford us the opportunity to interact with people from all over, expanding our small little worlds, but it is the individual that sets his own limitations. Some people may choose to be close minded and not expand their horizons, but these people suck anyway so who cares tongue

Urgh....I have stupidly overloaded myself with classes and now I'm regreting it. My Composition class is going well, and so are my singing classes (that don't count for anything). But other than that, I'm totally floundering.
I tried to pick classes that weren't writing intensive, but forgot to ration out the reading. At one point this semester if I'd been able to do all the...

Sounds like you'll be reading like it's your fuill time job. Just don't forget to take breaks to let your brain relax. Kinda like restarting a pc to "reset" the RAM...
When it comes down to classes.. well... I'm not saying not to try in all of them, but if it really gets bad, at least focus on the ones important to your degree. Course I'm sure most if not all of them are important to graduation, but the degree ones should be at the top.

It's still early for me here, so for now I'll leave you with a quote or two from my quote collection.

If you believe you can tell me what to think, I believe I can tell you where to go.

He is your friend, your partner, your defender, your dog.
You are his life, his love, his leader. He will be yours, faithful and true,...

I've become really fascinated by the effects of advanced technology on culture. Especially communications, and the concept of an online community having more effect on a persons life than the people they interact with everyday.

A long time ago I found a site online, where some country (I can't for hte life of me remember which one) didn't exist anymore, and they had created an...

*blah blah blah*

what are the pros and cons of information anarchy?
are libraries anti-capitalist?
does making knowledge secret actually make everyone safer?
who gets to decide what knowledge is secret?
what power does that give them?

is knowledge still power when everyone has access to it?
gweggums:
the biggest problem with free information is that anyone has access to it....and you can't trust anyone. 1. you make no money, 2. Some secrets DO keep the world safer(Weapon placement, national defense, where's waldo, etc.), 3. IF all information was free, what would be the fun in stealing it biggrin
BTW....thanx for the testimonial....altough I can't picture you actually vocalizing it with a straight face ARRR!!!

I heard a good quote today while I was watching Bulletproof Monk.

"You can either sit on your ass and do nothing, or fly like a phoenix from the ashes of your pathetic life."

Other than that I've spent the last two days studying and watching movies. I think my social interaction with real people has been limited to about an hour total. Oh well,...
