I've become really fascinated by the effects of advanced technology on culture. Especially communications, and the concept of an online community having more effect on a persons life than the people they interact with everyday.
A long time ago I found a site online, where some country (I can't for hte life of me remember which one) didn't exist anymore, and they had created an online "country". They planed to ask for UN recognition after they had a certain number of "citizens", and the physical location of their country would be the area where their server was located.
What effects would this have if it went through? Would you have dual citizenship with whatever country you lived in? how would diplomacy work for this new nation? what if they went to "war"? Could they go to war? How would citizenship be obtained? The questions go on and on. If this became a common occurence what would that mean for the borders of society? Would borders, (actual physical borders) even exist anymore?
This is what happens when I think too much.

Interesting topic of ponder though.....
