First night back at work after a week off and everything went well enough. I have no idea what happened last week in terms of the news since when I'm off I'm completely check out. Apparently nothing really big since no one updated me on anything. Then again I don't know anyone who stays a news junkie in the news business. You get numb and just sort of zone out after a while.
I did see where Jim Carroll died a few days ago, which gave me pause for a moment. You have to respect the old school cats even if you're not that familiar with most of their work. They helped define their times in the scene and build a rough template for what was to come, for better or worse. (I'm more late 70s U.K punk than 70s New York art scene punk.)
Shortly thereafter the initial brief on the death of Patrick Swayze popped up on the newswire. Four inches of copy turned into 40 in probably an hour. No doubt canned copy though, since that shit has been looming for quite some time.
Somewhere Johnny Utah is screaming at the top of his lungs and firing blindly into the air. Or The Double Deuce is serving up a free round of shots in honor of their fallen bouncer. Or some rag-tag band of teenagers fighting the evils of communism are writing his name in some giant rock with chalk. Or he's back with Jerry Orbach and saying something about no one putting baby in a corner.
For someone who wasn't a fan I sure have seen a lot of his movies. Bits and pieces of them anyway.
Twitter shit.
